Climate advocates hope that John Darley’s admission on climate change will inspire other politicians
Climate advocates hope that John Darley’s admission he was wrong on climate change will inspire other politicians to make the same declaration. The Advance SA MP told Parliament he used to be a climate sceptic but now wants Australia to commit to zero carbon emissions by 2050. The 82yo said he was convinced by an episode of the ABC’s Q&A program which featured five scientists.
Climate Council’s Martin Rice hopes it inspires other politicians to listen:
(ABC ADELAIDE 6am/7.45am & ABC NORTH & WEST 6am/7.45am) “We really do commend John Darley for his admission, he was wrong about climate change, so it’s really important to understand that the science of climate change has long been settled, but in Australia we’ve seen vested interests showing doubt in people’s minds.”
(ABC ADELAIDE 7am & ABC NORTH & WEST 7am) “This is putting lives at risk, it’s putting our economy at risk but thankfully things are moving at the sub-national level and really SA should be very proud of its uptake of renewables.”
